A United Airlines plane from Houston to New York City's LaGuardia Airport had to make an emergency landing in Memphis after a passenger made terrorist threats and charged the cockpit.

According to the Daily Mail, Victor Manguel bum-rushed the cockpit of United Airline flight 1435 after an scuffle with other passengers.

Passenger Cookie Smith told KPRC that Manguel, who had a black eye, first argued with passengers at the back of the plane before rushing towards the cockpit.

A flight attendant required the help of four first class passengers to reign the unruly passenger in.

The plane made an emergency landing in Memphis where Memphis Police and FBI were waiting to arrest Manguel.

All 140 passengers were ushered off the plane and authorities then brought bomb-sniffing dogs on board and searched the plane for an explosive device.

Pilots were eventually given the okay to continue their journey to New York and the plane, which left Houston at 6.55 p.m on Saturday, finally touched down in Newark Liberty International Airport at 2.52 on Sunday morning - 45 minutes away from its destination, reports KPRC.

Mangual has been charged in federal court with interfering with a flight crew, according to WREG.
