Landscape Photographer of the Year 2014
Entries for the Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year Award 2014 are now officially open and entrants have until July 11 to submit photographs of the UK's landscapes via the competition website www.take-a-view.co.uk.
The Landscape Photographer of the Year Award showcases the best of British landscapes - from rolling countryside, craggy peaks to shiny cityscapes.
The competition, which is is run in association with VisitBritain and Countryside is GREAT, highlights all that Britain has on offer.
The award is in its eighth year and is open to everyone. There is even a special class for those younger than 17.
Each entrant can submit 25 photographs across four categories. There is a prize fund worth £20,000, including £10,000 for the overall winner. An exhibition of winning entries will premiere in central London in November 2014 and over 150 of the best photographs will appear in stunning coffee table book Landscape Photographer of the Year, Collection 8 (The AA).
There is both an Adult and a Junior title for the award and entries are split into four categories:
• Classic View is the category for landscape photography in its purist form; sweeping views that capture the beauty and splendour of the UK in one image.
• Living The View is the category for images of people interacting with the outdoors – working or playing in the UK Landscape.
• Your View allows the entrants to express what the UK landscape means to them through photography. It is a way to comment on the way we treat our landscapes and a chance to provide a new way of looking at our environment.
• Urban View is a category for pictures taken in cities and towns. With almost 80% of the UK population living in built up areas, the landscapes that we connect with on a day-to-day basis are increasingly of an urban nature.
From dramatic cityscapes to rolling countryside, misty tors in the West Country to the turquoise waters of the Hebrides, Britain's remarkable landscape and volatile weather provide plenty of scope to fire the imagination.
