Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly set to marry in Florence at the 16th century Belvedere Fort on 24 May.

Previous reports suggested the celebrity couple were to marry in Versailles, outside Paris, but a spokeswoman at Florence mayor's office said on Friday that their reception will take place at the imposing fort in Italy.

The couple rented the fort, located next to Florence's famed Boboli Gardens, for 300,000 euros (£244,300) and a Protestant minister is expected to preside over the ceremony, spokeswoman Elisa Di Lupo told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

Belvedere Fort was built in 1590, believed using plans by Don Giovanni de' Medici. Located near the Arno River, it offers a panoramic view of Florence and the surrounding Tuscan hills.

While the couple have not confirmed where their nuptials will take place, Kanye West talked about the beauty of Florence in an interview with Florence's La Nazione newspaper published on Friday. The 36-year-old rapper said he was "very excited" and "very happy" about the wedding.

He said he and Kim had visited the Italian city last year and believed their daughter North was conceived "among the Renaissance masterpieces".

"It was our first honeymoon," he said. "It's one of the most beautiful cities of the world, for me the most beautiful in Europe."

Belvedere Fort is owned by the Italian government but operated by authorities in Florence. It was closed for five years after two young Italians fell to their deaths from its ramparts but is due to reopen this summer.

Elisa Di Lupo said the proceeds from the wedding rental would go to restoring Florence's artistic treasures.
