£37-a-night hotel in Wales is 2nd best in UK for customer service
A £37-a-night hotel in Llandudno, Wales, has been rated the second best in the UK for customer service.
Lauriston Court, a small, family-run hotel, was also named seventh best hotel for customer service in Europe and 20th in the world, and with room rates costing from just £37 per person, per night, it is proof that great service doesn't have to cost the earth.
Carol-lynn Robbins, Co-owner of Lauriston Court, said: "When it comes to giving great service, you've got to have a love for the job and people, coupled with bundles of energy and the ability to really empathise with people.
"We're never complacent and always continuing to look at ways for us to improve – but it's fantastic to know that our hard work isn't going unnoticed with another Travellers' Choice Service award under our belt."
So what's the fuss all about? At Lauriston Court, service doesn't stop at help with luggage or a chocolate on the pillow. It's much more personal than that – when the owners, Carol-lynn and Ian Robbins, helped two guests arrange their wedding, Ian was the chauffeur and made the groomsmen's button holes, Carol-lynn was the photographer and, as a special surprise, her brother sang for them.
Two UK hotels were named among the best rated in the world for customer service in the Travellers' Choice Hotels with Exceptional Service awards, announced by TripAdvisor.
The Egerton House Hotel in London was named number one hotel in the UK for customer service, and also scooped sixth in Europe and 19th in the world.
Taking third place in the UK was Jersey's La Haule Manor, which also came tenth in Europe.
This year, the South of England performed extremely well with 14 of the 25 UK winners located below the M4 corridor, and it's the South West in particular that shines with seven winners in total, more than any other region.
Already celebrating a string of TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards this year, Devon is revealed as the UK's biggest winning county with five hotels securing awards. The county's victorious hotels include; The Elmdene, Torquay which takes 10th place in the UK, Gidleigh Park, Chagford coming in 12th, Shelley's in Lynmouth at 17th and Martinhoe's The Old Rectory Hotel and Yeoldon House Hotel in Bideford taking 19th and 20th position respectively.
While London scooped the most awards of any UK town or city with three in total, it was the smaller seaside destinations that shone this year, with Portsmouth, Blackpool and Llandudno all landing two awards each – more awards than any town outside of the capital.
TripAdvisor spokesperson, James Kay,told Aol Travel: "Given that service is such a huge aspect of the travel experience, this year we wanted to shine a special spotlight on the efforts of hotels in the UK and across the globe with a record of exceptional customer service.
"The fact that our UK award winners range from bargain hotels through to luxury five-star establishments shows that great service isn't always predicated on price."
Morocco and the US are celebrating the most wins in the global category with four each in the world top 25, followed by Vietnam with three wins. Morocco also takes the big win as Marrakech's Riad Kheirredine claims the coveted title of world's best rated hotel for service in this year's awards.
