A new London hotel that guarantees a room with a view has opened - located in the tallest building in Western Europe, The Shard.

The long-awaited five star Shangri-La Hotel occupies levels 34 to 52 of the 1016ft tall Renzo Piano-designed skyscraper, and opened on 6 May 2014.

Each of the hotel's 202 guest rooms and suites, placed from levels 36 to 50, feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering spectacular views over the city, including landmarks like the Houses of Parliament, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf and St Paul's Cathedral.

Costing from £450 a night, each room also boasts a unique layout and design thanks to The Shard's spiral shape.

Luxurious touches include body-contouring Shangri-La beds, marble bathrooms with heated floors, Acqua Di Parma toiletries and televisions integrated with mirrors.

However, visitors will have to wait until September to enjoy one of the hotel's three spectacular 'signature suites'.

Situated on the 39th floor, these suites, which will cost up to £3,250, will offer amazing 180-degree views of the city.

Meanwhile, the hotel itself will also be home to London's highest infinity pool and highest champagne bar.

There will be three dining destinations, with the main restaurant Ting, which comes from the Chinese word for 'living room', serving a European menu with a 'hint of Asian flavouring' on the 35th floor.

There is also a patisserie and artisan deli on the ground floor, called Láng, as well as third restaurant called Gong on level 52 where the infinity pool is also based.

Hong Kong-based hotel group Shangri-La boasts 83 hotels, with the Shangri-La at The Shard being the third in Europe, following the openings of Shangri-La Hotel, Paris and Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul in 2010 and 2013, reports TTG Mena.
