How many DIYers does it take to change a light bulb? According to a Santander Insurance survey published in time for Bank Holiday weekend, one in five (20%) Brits admit they can't change a light bulb on their own. Most of those, but not all, (17) fess up to being a "DIY disaster case". More men than women (19% versus 15%) say they are hopeless at DIY.

And it is an expensive business when you do get it wrong. In the past 12 months, 7% of Britons have damaged their home going DIY, with an average estimated repair bill of £195, or a collective £688m. Some 14% of those who have caused DIY damage were faced with a bill of over £500.
