Australian beach closes as 4m shark spotted swimming near whale

Updated

A four metre great white shark was spotted stalking a six metre whale along Australia's Perth coast early this morning.

The shark was spotted just 100 metre off the Floreat Groyne at City Beach.

The whale, that is presumed to have attracted the shark to the area, was spotted 25 metres off City Beach today (Wednesday) reports Perth Now.

Both the whale and the shark were tracked by Surf Life Saving WA's helicopter as they headed north.

A number of Perth beaches including City Beach, Scarborough, Brighton and Trigg were closed following the sighting but have now been reopened.

Surf Life Saving WA recommend that those visiting beaches along the northern suburbs should exercise caution as the shark may continue north along the coast.
