Pensioner Hit by Train on Level Crossing and Walks Away

A 77-year-old man was knocked down by a train in the Czech Republic - and survived.

A video of the incident was posted on YouTube and shows the pensioner walking around a lowered barrier on a level crossing.

Cars are seen stopped on either side of the barriers but the man still walks across the tracks.

Just as he gets three quarters of the way across, a train approaches and hits him.

He is seen falling to the ground but soon gets up, just as the barriers are raised and the cars continue their journeys.

The man walks off of the tracks and is approached by a passer-by on a motorbike.

In 2012, an 85-year-old woman caused rail delays as she drove 80 yards down train tracks after turning the wrong way at a level crossing.

The woman was driving towards Brockenhurst station in the New Forest, Hampshire, when she accidentally turned on to the track between Bournemouth and London Waterloo.

The lady stopped her car and called for help, and she was treated for shock, along with her fellow passenger.

The incident caused delays on the route, and bus replacement services had to be set up.

Her car was removed by crane later on in the day.

And last year, the moment a reckless man narrowly escaped death as he ran over a level crossing when a 1,000-tonne train charges towards him was caught on camera.

CCTV footage of the incident that occurred in Lincoln on 14 December was released and shows the man swinging his leg over the barrier after crossing, just a second before the train thunders passed at 40mph.

Phil Verster, route managing director for Network Rail said: "This individual had a very lucky escape and these images reinforce the need for us to take action at both level crossing sites in the city.

"We are acutely aware of this need and continue to seek the best possible solution for the High Street level-crossing."
