Abu Dhabi is believed to be the next film location for the new Star Wars movie.

Film crews were spotted rolling out an object, reportedly a prop from the new film, in the desert of the UAE state.

The photos show a giant disc, similar to the escape pod used by C3PO and R2D2 in the original 1977 film, being rolled out of a tent, the Daily Mail reports.

The photos were taken on Tuesday morning by a photographer from Abu Dhabi newspaper, The National.

According to the paper, the film set is being built in the sand dunes near the resort of Qasr Al Sarab, which looks like Tatooine, the desert-like home planet of Luke Skywalker.

The Guardian reports that the political situation in Tunisia has forced film-makers to move the set from where the previous movies were shot.

Last year, it was reported that Star Wars VII is set to be filmed in a disused quarry overlooking Bluewater shopping centre in Greenhithe, Kent.

The suburban spot will reportedly be used for battle scenes, where scenes from the Doctor Who television series were also once shot.

A source told The Sun: "Doctor Who has been filmed there and it can easily replicate other planets. They'll just have to make sure they don't include the shopping centre in any shots."
