A Norwegian fisherman found an orange vibrator inside a large cod he was gutting.

Bjørn Frilund wasn't too surprised when he pulled out two half-digested herrings, but was "astonished" to find the fish had eaten a sex toy.

The 64-year-old told The Local he has been fishing in waters around his home in Eidsbygda, western Norway for as long as he can remember but has never come across anything like this before.

The angler believes the 5kg cod thought the vibrator was a cephalopod.

"I was astonished," he said. "It was totally unexpected. I had never seen anything like this before."

He added: "Fish eat all kinds of different things. And the dildo looks like what the fish eat. We have a kind of multi-coloured octopus in Norway, maybe the cod thought this was one of these and ate it."

Speaking to the Åndalsnes Avis newspaper, which published a photo of the fish and vibrator, Frilund said the sex toy had probably been thrown off a boat by "a frustrated woman on a cruise".

In January, a keen fisherman from New Zealand was left baffled when he caught a translucent shrimp-like creature swimming near the surface of the ocean.

Stewart Fraser, was fishing with sons Conaugh and Finn 70kms north of the Karikari Peninsula when he spotted the mysterious 'shrimp' floating near the top of the sea.

Stewart told Caters News: "I was in two minds whether to haul it in, but curiosity got the better of me and I decided to take a closer look.

"It felt scaly and was quite firm, almost jelly like, and you couldn't see anything inside aside from this orange little blob."

The photo baffled Stewart and all of his fisherman friends, who are still none the wiser as to what the creature could have been.
