Gwyneth Paltrow's grandmother has passed away while the actress was on holiday.

Dorothy W Paltrow, the mother of Gwyneth's late father, Bruce Paltrow, died on 31 March.

According to the independent.ie, Dorothy lived in Palm Beach, Florida, and is survived by two children, five grandchildren, and 10 great grand children.

The Daily Mail reports that her death was first announced in the Palm Beach Post.

News of the death comes shortly after Gwyneth and her husband Chris Martin announced their separation after 10 years of marriage.

The couple jetted off to the Caribbean with their children, Apple, nine, and Moses, seven, as the news of their 'conscious uncoupling' hit the headlines.

On Sunday, Gwyneth shared a picture from the holiday in the Bahamas on Twitter, writing: "No line on the horizon #exumas."

Exumas is a district of the Bahamas consisting of over 360 islands (or cays). The largest of the cays is Great Exuma.

The islands are a popular spot for yachting, sailing, diving, and coral reef and cave exploring. The stunning white sands, relatively little tourism, and low tax make them a top destination for celebrities, with many owning their own islands here. These include Johnny Depp, Nicholas Cage, Faith Hill, Eddie Irvine and Eddie Murphy.

The cays have also played as a backdrop in a number of films, including Sandy Cay, just a short boat ride from Little Exuma, which was the location used for filming the Pirates of the Caribbean beach scenes.
