Video: Couple claim they caught live chupacabra but put it down

A couple from Texas claim they captured a live chupacabra but put the mythical creature down.

Jackie Stock and her husband Bubba discovered the growling, hairless creature in their back garden.

The creature was locked in a cage for friends and neighbours to take a look.

"We were just trying to figure out what it is because we've never seen anything like it before," Jackie told WMUR.

"He [Bubba] called me to come and look, and I said 'Bubba that looks like a baby chupacabra'."

But after a video of the animal went viral, the couple euthanized the creature because it was suffering.

TMZ reports that PETA sent the Stocks messages saying they were upset by the animal being caged and not receiving treatment.

They said it was most likely a raccoon with mange that was in pain as a chupacabra would have sucked the blood of the goats next door before it was caught.

The animal was never examined to identify it but Jackie took it to the shelter and was told "it went to sleep very peacefully."

She added: "I had gotten attached. I was calling him Chupie. He will be missed."

The legend of El Chupacabra originates from 1995 when eight sheep were killed in Puerto Rico. They were found with puncture wounds in the chest and completely drained of blood.

Since then, the mythical vampire-like beast has been spotted across the world in Belarus, Mexico and Mississippi.
