The Barbican has been voted London's ugliest tall building in a new survey of the city's residents.

Research from think tank New London Architecture, which was carried out in conjunction with a new exhibition on London's expanding skyline, found that Londoners are divided in their opinions of the towering buildings which are increasingly dominating the skyline.

A significant number (37 per cent) said they would prefer not to see so many tall buildings, while 26 per cent said they were happy to see more built.

A total of 236 London skyscrapers with 20 floors or more are being planned to be completed within the next five years.
