American IT manager Richard Chew captured the amazing pictures of two of the world's most fearsome creatures going head-to-head at the Masai Mara nature reserve in Kenya.

According to the Mirror, the lion braved the crocodile-infested waters in a bid to get her teeth into the hippo, which had died overnight due to natural causes.

The fearless lion shows no sign of backing down when several crocodiles emerge from the water.

"It was amazing to see the food chain in action. The lion was showing his rival no fear," said Mr Chew.

The hungry lion claws at the dangerous reptiles as they snap back in anger.

According to the Daily Mail, the lioness was seen stalking the corpse on the other side of the river earlier in the day.

Despite being completely outnumbered, the deadly predator was not willing to give up without a fight.
