'Drunk' mother doesn't notice her child falling out of car

Gianna Henderson

A US woman has been arrested after she failed to notice her young child fall out of her moving car as she negotiated a motorway slip road.
Missouri resident Gianna Henderson was witnessed attempting to join a highway just outside of Kansas City when her one-year-old baby suddenly tumbled out of the car.

Luckily, the boy was saved by a quick-thinking motorist who took it out of harm's way and looked after it until paramedics arrived. It was later taken to hospital suffering only from minor injuries, US news network KMBC reported.

Another child was also in the back seat of the Hyundai Sonata, but managed to stay inside.

Suspected of being under the influence of drink and drugs, Henderson was quickly pulled over by police. After conducting a search, officers found drugs and associated paraphernalia, and arrested the 30-year-old.

She told police that the older child apparently removed the younger child's seat fastenings, causing him to bounce out when the car started moving.

Henderson was later charged with child endangerment, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to provide proof of insurance, displaying an improper licence plate and failing to restrain the child properly in her vehicle.

The baby has since been released from hospital.
