A grey nurse shark was saved from almost certain death by brave divers in Sydney this week.

The grey nurse shark was having difficulty breathing after getting an elastic band stuck around her body.

According to 650keni.com, the band was acting like a noose, slowly killing the shark as it pressed on her gills.

A vet team then swam to its rescue, placing the shark in a clear plastic 'sock' before bringing her to the surface and removing the band.

A SeaLife sanctuary worker said it was "the first time that we've run this kind of operation in the wild".
