Lotus motorcycle one step closer to production

Lotus Motorcycles C-01, designed by Daniel Simon

The world's first motorcycle to bear the iconic Lotus livery is nearing completion as design and engineering company Kodewa unleashes a new batch of mouth-watering computer renders.
Boasting a monstrous 1200cc engine that develops around 200bhp, the C-01 looks set to be a two-wheeled force to be reckoned with.

Although not a direct product of the Norfolk-based contingent, the C-01 has been given permission to bear Lotus branding and design guru Daniel Simon (the man responsible for the Tron light cycles) has let his imagination run wild with the final designs.

But unlike many other concept vehicles, the C-01 will go into limited production. Just 100 models will be produced at first and each one will be available in a selection of classic Lotus liveries.

Kodewa's Dr Colin Kolles said of the project: "We set out to create a bike that isn't just great to ride but also represents a piece of art in motion. Over the years I have seen my fair share of style over substance, what this bike brings to the market is a unique combination of both: state of the art technology with a truly jaw-dropping aesthetic."

Technical specifications for the futuristic motorcycle looks like this: A 2-cylinder 4-stroke, 75° V-style engine powers the rear wheel and produces just shy of 200bhp. The frame is made from aero tech steel and carbonfibre, while upside down forks at the front and twin strut suspension at the rear soak up the bumps.

Designer Daniel Simon said: "The design process of the C-01 was a labour of love, there were many challenges, ensuring that the bike not only touches your visual senses with its timeless blend of classic appeal and modern execution, but that is safe and ergonomically sound was critical to me.

He added: "We have worked hard to create a motorcycle with very distinctive features such as a clean main body, an extremely low side profile, a bold stance, a unique air intake, logical partline solutions and clean graphics."
