An American Airlines flight from Baltimore to Dallas was delayed at the airport after a tug truck crashed into the plane.

Flight 140 was set to depart Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport just after 5pm on Sunday.

But the flight was cancelled after the truck crashed into the aircraft damaging the fibreglass nose cone and hitting the landing gear, reports NBC News.

Passenger Eric Crusius managed to get a picture of the incident and uploaded it to Twitter.

He said: "All of a sudden, the plane just really shook and my first reaction was maybe another plane had hit the plane while we were parked there."

He added that everyone was a bit shaken up, but none of the 117 passengers were injured.

The driver of the tow vehicle was treated for minor knee injuries at the hospital, and passengers were re-booked onto flights on Monday.

According to the NY Daily News, officials are investigating the incident, and are looking into whether the incident was caused by a mechanical fault or human error.
