Two Britons have been killed in separate accidents while skiing in the Swiss Alps.

Chris Longbottom, 39, originally from London, died in an avalanche in the resort of Col de Forclaz on Sunday, reports the Evening Standard.

According to thelocal.ch, Chris, who had been skiing with his wife Alexandra and four friends, was buried in three metres of snow after the avalanche of 200 metres long and 50 metres wide swept him away.

His companions were able to dig themselves out and call emergency services, but his body was not found until Tuesday. He lived in Switzerland and ran a company called Ski Freedom.

Then, on Monday, a 65-year-old man suffered fatal head injuries, despite wearing a helmet, after hitting a rock while skiing off-piste in the resort of Vercorin.

The group had been skiing on a forestry road in the Orzival region in an area known as Creux du Varnec when the man fell and hit his head.

He was airlifted to hospital but later died.
