Photos: Boy risks his life to save drowning baby deer

Updated

These photos show how a brave teenage boy risked his own life to rescue a baby deer who was drowning in a river in Bangladesh.

The boy, called Belal, plunged into the water when he saw the struggling animal.

Onlookers grew concerned when the boy disappeared into the murky depths, worried that he may not reappear. When Bilal got out of the water, baby deer in hand, the locals cheered. The baby was immediately reunited with its family.

Fast rising floods in Noakhali region of Bangladesh have caused problems for locals and wildlife alike.

These images were captured by wildlife photographer Hasibul Wahab, who told Caters News Agency that a lot of deer drown during the rainy season and there is little that locals can do to protect them.

"He was such a brave boy. The river was so full of water and it was high tide so we thought he might drown. My friend was ready to jump into the river to save the boy, but he made it."
