This is the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe

To make life slightly more confusing for existing BMW 3 Series owners looking to upgrade their rides, BMW has launched yet another addition to its sporty saloon line-up.
Where the previous generation BMW 3 Series came in Saloon or Coupe offerings (simple enough), the range has now been split into a 3 Series derivative – that signifies the saloon version – and a 4 Series that covers the two-door coupes.

And to add to the muddle, BMW now offers a 4-Series Gran Coupe that is a hatchback, four-door version of the usually two-door coupe. Are you still with us?

Good, because the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be aimed at those who want the sporty styling and the sleek two-door exterior of the upcoming 4-Series with the added practicality of a four-door saloon.

Load-lugging abilities are improved thanks to the hatchback rear, as boot volume is now 480 litres, 35 litres larger than that of the two-door version, and the same capacity of the BMW 3-Series Saloon.

The usual engine line-up will remain, so customers can look forward to three petrol units of increasing outputs (420i, 428i, 435i) and two diesel offerings (418d, 420d). The smallest petrol engine produces 183bhp, increasing to 304bhp in the most powerful unit, while diesels produce 141bhp or 182bhp respectively.

The most powerful 420d engine will also be available in BMW's xDrive 4x4 drivetrain, which offers customers peace of mind in all weather conditions.

BMW's 4-Series Gran Coupé goes on sale on June 21, priced from £29,420 for a 420i SE, rising to £41,655 OTR for a 435i M Sport with all the sporty bells and whistles.
