In December 1998 surveyor Richard Durkin walked into an Aberdeen branch of PC World. He bought a laptop with a £50 deposit, signing a credit arrangement with HFC Bank. Durkin then returned the laptop because it didn't have a modem. Durkin though was told by HFC he had to continue paying.
