British businessman dies in Bangkok hotel fall

A British businessman has died after falling from the 22nd floor of his hotel in Bangkok.

Karl Slym, 51, originally from Derby, was managing director at Indian car firm Tata Motors - the biggest in India - and had been attending a board meeting in the Thai capital.

According to The Sun, Mr Slym was found at the foot of the five-star Shangri-La hotel in the upmarket Yannawa district on Sunday.

Local media reports suggest he fell from a balcony after losing his balance.

Talking to The Times, Cyrus P Mistry, the chairman of Tata Group, said: "I am deeply saddened to inform you about the untimely and tragic demise of our company's managing director, Karl Slym.

"Karl was visiting Bangkok for a meeting of the board of directors of Tata Motors Thailand Ltd and passed away earlier today.

"Karl joined us in 2012 and was a valued colleague who was providing strong leadership at a challenging time for the Indian auto industry. In this hour of grief, our thoughts are with Karl's wife and family."

Karl lived in India with his wife Sally.

Police are investigating his death and post-mortem is expected to take place on Monday.
