Two trains in head-on collision in Cumbria
Two freight trains have been involved in a head-on collision on tracks two miles north of Penrith in Cumbria.
The trains, which had delivered materials for track maintenance work, collided at low speed at 1.30pm on Sunday, reports In Cumbria.
The news site adds that reports suggested one of the drivers managed to jump clear before the collision and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.
Services along the West Coast Main Line were delayed after the crash, which saw part of one of the trains derail.
Network Rail said it was looking into the collision.
A spokesman told the Westmorland Gazette: "The Rail Accident Investigation Branch is investigating and we will do all we can to fully assist. We apologise to passengers for the disruption caused."
