Dead sperm whale washes up on Edinburgh beach
A dead sperm whale washed up near a beach in Edinburgh on Saturday.
Police Scotland and an SSPCA team were called to Portobello beach near the Rockville hotel in Joppa, Edinburgh, at around 7.30am.
A spokeswoman said arrangements were being made with Edinburgh City Council to remove it from the water.
According to the Scotsman, experts believe the animal was a young sperm whale.
In July, a dead minke whale washed up on a Scarborough beach.
The 28ft whale was thought to have got caught up in lobster pot ropes.
