A woman gave birth to a baby girl at Heathrow Airport just minutes after stepping off a flight on New Year's Day.

Ragina Hamisi, from London, was due to give birth on 4 January and had been on a trip to Kenya for her brother's wedding.

According to the Evening Standard, she had just landed back in London when her waters broke in the toilet in arrivals.

An hour later she had given birth to her 6lb 4oz baby.

Speaking to the Barking and Dagenham Post, Ragina said: "I felt the baby coming as I passed through the airport and went into the toilets.

She added that airport workers "quickly fetched an ambulance which was on site and medical staff tended to me."

Ragina's baby is yet to be named and is sister to the life and support worker's five-year-old daughter Melissa and 18-month-old son Jayden.

She praised Heathrow staff, saying they "were really helpful".

In December, a woman gave birth on a short-haul flight from Valencia to Bucharest.

The passenger welcomed a baby boy on the Wizz Air flight shortly before landing.

An airline spokesperson said: "During descent and while taxiing to the terminal, the passenger was assisted on a back row of the aircraft by a crew member and a doctor who was travelling on the same flight."
