Picture: Giant whale seen on motorway in France

Ever seen a whale on the motorway? A 17-metre sperm whale was spotted strapped to the back of a truck on a motorway in eastern France this week.

The unusual scene shocked drivers who passed the sea creature on the A31 motorway near the town of Thionville.

Twitter user Guillaume Machu shared a photo of the whale parked in a service station car park.

According to The Local, the whale was in fact a life-size replica made of fibreglass by Belgian collective Captain Boomer.

The group told the Republicain Lorrain newspaper that the model was on its way home to the Netherlands after touring Europe to promote the protection of sperm whales.
