Sleepwalking hotel guest dies after falling out of window
A 27 year-old man died after falling from the window of a Hertfordshire hotel while sleepwalking.
Rob Williams, 27, from Essex, was rushed to hospital after a maintenance worker discovered him lying on the ground outside the hotel.
Mr Williams had had been at a Christmas party with colleagues at the De Vere Theobalds Park hotel in Waltham Cross.
The Brentwood Gazettesays that his family believe that he was sleepwalking when he fell, as he had been a sleepwalker since childhood.
Mr Williams was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, suffering from hypothermia. Later that day he was transferred to Basildon Hospital's critical care ward, suffering from severe brain injuries.
His sister, Kirsty Ashby, told the Daily Star that her younger brother had climbed out of the hotel window onto an outside balcony. She said: "We knew Rob did sleep walk but I don't think any of us knew how bad it was - it's only been from talking to his friends that we realised the extent of it."
On Christmas Day, Mr Williams' family made the agonising decision to turn off his life support machine.
Mr Williams leaves another sister, Lousie Williams, parents Frances and Jestyn Williams, and his partner of four years, Carla Hamilton.
Hertfordshire Police are treating the incident as a sudden death and are meeting with the coroner to discuss the details surrounding his death.
