Search for cruise ship passenger who jumped overboard
The US Coast Guard is searching for a Royal Caribbean passenger who jumped off a cruise ship near a Puerto Rican island.
The missing Canadian man, Tien Phuoc Nguyen, was on the last night of a seven-night cruise holiday with his family.
According to the Independent, Mr Nguyen, 26, was seen jumping from the ship by other passengers on Saturday night as the Adventures of the Sea was east of the uninhabited Mona Island.
The captain immediately turned the ship around and authorities were alerted.
ABC News reports that the Coast Guard is still hopeful they will find Nguyen alive but weather in the area is unpredictable and seas are often dangerous.
"Weather conditions there typically change rapidly. It could be a good weather day and a weather system comes in and everything turns and becomes pretty nasty," Coast Guard spokesman Ricardo Castrodad said.
"You can have easily from two to four feet seas and then be facing 10-foot seas from one moment to another, so it is known as a pretty dangerous body of water."
