The parents of three British children tried to stop them being taken into care by smuggling them on a plane from Heathrow to Pakistan.

According to the Daily Mirror, the children - aged three, five and 15 - were put on the 15-hour flight to Islamabad without adult supervision and were to be picked up by relatives on arrival.

The parents have been jailed and the children have not been heard of since 7 October.

The Daily Mirror reports that Mr Justice Anthony Hayden QC told Liverpool Crown Court: "One cannot begin to imagine the anxiety that trip must have caused to those children in these circumstances in their tender years."

Lancashire County Council declined to comment when contacted by AOL Travel.
