Thief cut in half by train after stabbing burglary victim

A man who broke into someone's home and stabbed his burglary victim was then cut in half by a train when he tried to cross railway tracks while escaping.

Lopez Christian Webster, 32, was hit by a freight train in Des Moines, Iowa, and was killed instantly when he was cut in two.

He had just broken into a home on Tuesday and stabbed a man repeatedly before fleeing with the warning: "Move and I kill you."

But, according to the NY Daily News, it was Webster that was then killed when he tried to jump train tracks - just as a Union Pacific locomotive came through.

Webster's victim received three stab wounds to the left arm, and lacerations to his chest, right arm and neck, but will recover from his wounds.

According to the Des Moines Register, the driver of the train had no idea he'd hit somebody. The train was stopped around 12 miles north of the incident.

It is not known whether Webster was trying to clear the tracks, or jump onto the train.

Sgt. Jason Halifax of the Des Moines P.D. told The Blaze: "Whatever he was trying to do, he wasn't successful in doing that. He slipped, or didn't make the jump, or didn't clear the jump and landed on the tracks where the train ran him over."

"He's actually cut in half by the train," Halifax added. "Physically cut in half by the train."

According to the Daily Mail, Webster, who'd had several run-ins with the police before, broke into the home of Timothy Kingery and stabbed him before running.

Webster is survived by a 15-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
