The Premier League star spotted shopping in Poundworld
There are plenty of places you would expect to see a Chelsea Footballer: the VIP room of an expensive club, or the showroom of a super-car manufacturer. But one star was spotted by a fan in Poundworld.
So who was this thrifty footballer, and which other celebrities have an eye for a bargain?
The footballer in question was John Terry, who is said to make about £170,000 a week from his contract at Chelsea. He also raked in £5.25 million, after selling his old house and moving into a new property he built in the grounds.
He was spotted in the Woking branch of Poundworld, and agreed to stop for a photograph with a fan, Jack Jeffery. The photo appeared on the getsurrey.co.uk news website, although Jeffery was unable to shed any light on what the footballer was buying there.
It seems bizarre to have a celebrity sighting in a Poundworld, but Terry is far from the only famous person to have availed themselves of a bargain.
Thrift fansIn October we reported that Britney Spears is a fan. She says she's a regular at discount stores at home, and that on a visit to London where she popped into Poundland for some novelty matches.
And back in 2012 when Susan Boyle was said to be worth £22 million, she was spotted in her local Poundland picking up a few bits and pieces, before leaving and catching the bus home.
Michelle Obama was photographed in 2011 shopping at discount store Target. She never tried to make a secret of the fact that she likes the shop - mentioning it during the 2008 Presidential campaign, and being photographed in a dress from the store in 2009.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were spotted in their local Kmart in Missouri in Christmas 2010, buying children's toys. They certainly aren't the first parents of six children to appreciate the benefits of finding a bargain for Christmas.
Jada Pinkett Smith is a fan of second hand thrift. She has been snapped with her daughters looking for fashion statements at Santa Monica's finest thrift shops.
Zooey Deschanel, star of New Girl, is another fan of quirky vintage fashions, and is a regular at thrift shops and flea markets.
And, of course, there's rapper Ben Haggerty - otherwise known as Macklemore - who turned his love of thrift shopping into huge hit.
