Four tourists killed in sightseeing plane crash off the Bahamas
Four tourists have died in a plane crash just off the Bahamas on Monday.
Two men and two women were killed as they set off on a sightseeing tour mid-morning. The plane crashed just minutes after taking off from Grand Bahama Island at 11am local time.
According to ABC News, Police Superintendent Stephen Dean said the single-engine plane crashed in the sea a few miles off Grand Bahama island and all four people on board were killed.
He said: "All are believed to be Americans. It is thought they were on some kind of sightseeing tour."
According to the Daily Mail, the pilot has been identified as businessman Tony Wishart, from Indiana, but the three passengers have not yet been named.
The Miami Herald reports that the pilot radioed the tower to say the plane was having engine problems.
The plane, which was destroyed in the crash, was registered to First Class Flyers LLC, which is based in Indiana.
