Man fighting for life after being gored by stag's antlers in Wales
A man is fighting for his life after being attacked by a wild stag in Wales.
The man, thought to be in his 40s, was gored by the stag's antlers in Saron near Llandysul on Wednesday and was airlifted to Morriston Hospital by the Welsh Air Ambulance.
The alarm was raised by another rambler, and the air ambulance flew to the scene, where they anaesthetised the man and performed emergency surgery on the spot to stem the blood flow,
A Welsh Air Ambulance spokesman told the Carmarthen Journal: "The patient sustained multiple serious injuries, he was anaesthetised and surgery was performed on the scene by the helicopter crew.
"On arriving at hospital he was critical but stable."
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the spokesman added: "The crew were called down to a very rural area of West Wales. They were already co-responders with the fire service and ambulance on scene.
"They requested the helicopter, which is currently carrying a doctor. He was able to recognise the man needed life-saving treatment and carried out a surgical procedure on the farmyard."
Autumn is the deer's rutting season, a time when males can become more aggressive, engaging in battles over the right to mate and their territory.
