A man's body was discovered floating in the River Mole in Leatherhead, Surrey.

The dead body was spotted by a dog walker and emergency services were called.

The man's identity is not yet known and police have launched an investigation.

Fire crews rushed to the site and recovered the body from the river.

A Leatherhead Fire Station spokesman told This is Surrey Today: "At first it wasn't obvious it was a body because it was face down in the water - only the man's back could be seen.

"We thought, particularly with the time of year, it could have been a Guy.

"Two specialist boat crews from Sunbury and Walton went in and retrieved the body and handed it over to ambulance crews who declared the man dead."

According to the Epsom Guardian, Mole Valley Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Rundle said "there is no on-going risk to public safety."
