Fiery BMW M235i revealed in leaked pictures
The M235i tops the new 2-series range that has also been unveiled today with its 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 322bhp.
The most powerful model in the 2-series range will be able to despatch of the 0-62mph sprint in 5-seconds and go on to a limited top speed of 155mph.
Fans of the 1M coupe will enjoy the small yet aggressive proportions of the new 2-series, something the current 1-series and potent M135i model has done away with to an extent.
Despite featuring classic BMW 'shrunken coupe' styling, the new 2-series isn't quite as aggressive as the small sporty coupes of old. Instead, the Teutonic marque has opted to inject the taut lines and subtle creases of its larger 3 and 4-series models in order to attract a wider audience.
Customer will be able to specify their M235is with either a slick six-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox as well as plundering an options list that includes gadgets such as an around view monitor and mobile web access.
The rest of the 2-series line up will be available in 2.0-litre petrol and diesel configurations, badged 220i and 220d respectively, and starting at just over £25,000.
A further two diesel models, the 218d and 225d are also expected to join the line-up in May. A convertible version will also follow in the second half of 2014.
As always, buyers will be able to choose from the standard trim levels: SE, Sport, Modern and M Sport, with each boasting unique styling details both inside and out, on top of the varying levels of equipment.
Prices for the M235i are expected to be around £35,000 with the first examples hitting forecourts in March 2014.
