An American couple aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise helped rescue three men stranded at sea.

Kendra and Roy Nagy woke in their cabin in the middle of the night to the sounds of voices in the water.

They were on the Jewel of the Seas from Saint Martin to San Juan for a week-long cruise when they heard the men's cries for help.

Kendra immediately called the ship's main desk who contacted the captain.

According to CBS Local, he turned the ship around to search the area with floodlights.

After an hour of searching they found a white spot in the ocean.

"When it finally hit on something that was clearly sticking out of the water a little bit, that was a rush," Roy told CBS.

The three men had been in the water for about 10 hours after their speedboat capsized from St Thomas to St Croix.

Nashoba Publishing reports that once they were rescued, the men were given food, water and medical treatment.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said: "We are just glad that we were at the right place at the right time to help them."

The men were dropped off at St Martin the next day.
