Science experiment gone wrong? Toad has bat ears and lizard tongue

Ever seen a toad with bat ears and a lizard tongue? Well now you have! This strange-looking animal was discovered in the Cerros de Amotape National Park in Peru.

But according to conservation biologist Phil Torres, it is actually a cane toad FEEDING on a bat.

On his blog, Torres writes: "This photo was taken at a remote guard station in Peru by park ranger Yufani Olaya at Cerros de Amotape National Park. He gave us permission to write about the photo, but we're waiting to hear back from him on more details about where exactly he found it, and how he thinks a ground-dwelling toad could have captured a bat."

Torres adds that it is probably the first time a cane toad has been pictured eating a bat. He guesses that the bat tried to "roost in a hole that was inhabited by a hungry toad" and was soon swallowed.
