Video: 150 guests evacuated after fire breaks out at Cambridge hotel
An early morning fire at a historic hotel in Cambridge, where high-profile guests including the Beatles have stayed, led to 150 guests being evacuated and at least 12 fire engines arriving to tackle the blaze.
Sky News reports that the fire at 6am on Wednesday was on the top floor of the University Arms Hotel, where more than 60 firefighters were sent to the scene.
A Fire Service spokesperson told Heart that they were still trying to put the fire out just before 8am.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets and hose reels to contain the fire, which quickly spread to the roof and stud wall," a Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
The fire was out by 11am but two crews and an aerial appliance were still at the scene dampening down affected rooms, EDP24 reports.
The cause of the fire is not known and an investigation is underway.
Eyewitness Rob Campbell said: "I could see the smoke from the top floor rooms.
"There were at least two that looked significantly damaged and one which was billowing smoke from the top."
