November is an exciting month for holidaymakers. This month offers a good-value mixture of sun, city streets and even snow. As we're heading into winter now, a warm coat and a brolly is essential packing in Europe, even if you're heading to the warmest reaches. On the upside, this means less tourists to jostle with at the top attractions, galleries and museums.
If you've got the sun in your sights, travel beyond the Med to mid-haul destinations such as the Middle East, North Africa, and the Canary Islands. These will be cooler than summer yet still pleasantly warm ( although a jumper is useful for the evenings, when temperatures can plummet).
For guaranteed sunbathing, though, the only choice is long haul. This is just the month to benefit from good deals before the real winter season - and the peak Christmas period - kicks in. The Caribbean will have just waved goodbye to the hurricane season, and the Indian Ocean is less prone to monsoon rains at this time of year.
November is also the moment to go on a shopping expedition, too. Make the most of the strength of the pound against the dollar with a trip to the States to refresh your wardrobe and buy great gifts at a snip. Or catch the early Christmas markets across the Continent if you prefer your festive fancies a little more traditional. Skiers, meanwile, can dust off their salopettes for the coming year. You may have to climb a little higher to the pistes, but there are thrilling descents to be enjoyed even this early in the season.
