Officials say that a pilot who crashed crashed off the runway at the airport in Sandpoint, Idaho, was flying under the influence of alcohol.

The Spokesman Review reports that the accident happened on Monday morning when Donald Muirhead, 55, flew his twin-engine aircraft from Provo Utah, to Sandpoint, with two unidentified passengers on board.

Fortunately, no one was hurt when the plane smashed into a chain link fence, but airport officials say that there was extensive damage to the airport's primary navigation system, and the perimeter fence - and the damage could take months to repair.

Muirhead was arrested and is suspected of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The crash is now being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
