Mortgage lending increases by 28%

Mortgage lending saw further signs of a "healthy recovery" in August as the value of home loans handed out grew by almost one third year-on-year, banks and building societies have reported.

Around £16.6 billion worth of mortgages were advanced to borrowers last month, marking a 28% increase on the same period in 2012, the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said.
