There's nothing like the shared experience of a fun day out to keep the family happy, and these days the options are plentiful. Why not combine a little physical exercise and fresh air with your family activities, with one of these adventurous ideas?

Zegos
These one-man catamarans are available to try at Grendon Lakes near Wellingborough, Northants, and will give any thrill-seeking adults a speedy ride. But Ride Leisure, which runs the activities, will also give groups of six or more children the chance to experience the zegos, as well as hovercrafts, banana boats and off-roading in a 4x4. Jetskiing and wakeboarding are also available at the venue. A 30-minute zego session for adults costs £49, while the kids package is priced at £45, including lunch.

Sphereing
Sphereing, or zorbing, is already a popular adventure activity, and there are sites up and down the country where you can have a go in the giant hamster ball, and in some areas you can even take to the water. For a fresh take on the zorbing experience, why not try snow sphereing at the Chill Factore in Manchester, which also offers skiing and snowboarding lessons, ice slides, ice-tubing and a snow play area for the little ones. Prices for sphereing across the country start at around £35 per go.
Flowboarding
If you're not quite ready to take to the open ocean, flowboarding gives you that first taste of bodyboarding. The simulated surfing experience is safe and indoors, and the instructors will have you on your boarding feet in no time. FlowHouse offers lessons in Bedford and Yorkshire, while Retallack Resort in Cornwall can also get you and the kids (from five years and upwards) started. A session costs £29.99 for adults and £21.99 for kids with FlowHouse.
Ghyll scrambling
A proper outdoor adventure, this Lake District-based form of gorge walking involves climbing waterfalls, exploring mountain rivers and rocks, not to mention icy plunge pools for the brave among you. It's available in much of the Lake District and children as young as seven can join in. A three hour session at the Keswick Adventure Centre costs £25.

Wipeout
A fantastic thrill for adventure fans, the Ultimate Adventure Centre in Bideford, Devon, has built its very own version of the TV show's challenging obstacle course, including the famous big balls. Children of eight years and upwards are welcome, and it costs just £25 for a half-day session at the centre, with plenty of laughs and undoubtedly the odd soaking the order of the day. Sadly there's no £10,000 prize for the fastest course time.
