British pub manager dies in lift accident on holiday in Barcelona

A British pub manager has died after being involved in a lift accident while on holiday in Barcelona.

Joe Smith, 24, ran a pub in Leicester, and was on holiday with his girlfriend when the accident happened, reports the BBC.

According to the Mirror, the Foreign Office confirmed it was aware of a British national's death in Barcelona, and that they were offering his family consular support as arrangements were made to bring his body back to the UK.

A spokesman told ITV News: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Barcelona on the 3rd of September.

"We are in contact with the family and are providing consular assistance."

Friends and family have taken to social media in an attempt to raise money to bring his body home.

Tattoo artists Paul Talbot and Matt Barratt-Jones created online funds to help raise the money needed by offering a competition to win a full day's tattooing for £10.

Paul posted the competition on his Instagram page, writing: "I'm trying to help raise money for Joe Smith, who was tragically killed in Barcelona while on holiday, and without any travel insurance. It's going to cost £4,000 just to get him home.

"So, I'm giving away a full day's tattooing with me when I'm at Oddboy's studio – Real Art Tattoo near Leicester here in the UK.'

According to the Metro, the men have been successful in their efforts, with one of the funds, at gofundme.com, reaching £3,655 while another reached £610.

Matt wrote on the site "You people are amazing and I genuinely have a tear in my eye at the moment."
