British girl loses leg in Egypt bomb blast

A British teenager whose leg was amputated after a bomb blast in Egypt has described her terror during the attack, reports the Press Association.

Deqa Hassan, 16, originally from Somalia, said she cowered on the ground as bullets flew overhead and how two policemen ignored her as she called for help.

After the suspected terrorist attack in Cairo in which 20 people were injured last month, Miss Hassan was taken to the nearby Nasr Medical Insurance Hospital where her left leg was removed below the knee.

The teenager, who lived in London before moving to Egypt, told the Daily Telegraph: "I was walking with my friend and at the end of the street we heard the sound of an explosion.

"I just hit the floor. People were screaming everywhere. It was very scary.

"Eventually two policemen walked up to us. We were screaming for help but they just walked away. It wasn't human.

"The people nearby were yelling that they were injured and being shot at."

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of reports that a British national was injured in the bomb attack and we are urgently looking into it and liaising with the authorities."
