Stranded tourist stalked by crocodile for two weeks in Australia

A New Zealand tourist has been rescued from Governor Island, in the far north of Western Australia, after being trapped by a crocodile for two weeks.

The man became stuck on the island near Kalumburu after being terrorised by the enormous six-metre animal. He had been dropped off by a boat to explore the area in his 2.5 metre kayak.

But he soon realised he didn't have enough supplies for the Kimberley wilderness, and attempted to make it the four miles to the mainland. But every time he tried, the huge crocodile got in his way.

The man was found by a Kalumburu local called Don Macleod during a supply run over the weekend.

Don told abc.net.au: "He said he was there for a fortnight and he came to the conclusion very quickly that he couldn't get off there without attracting this crocodile.

"He said he didn't know there were crocodiles around there. A lot of people are naive about these things."

Mr Macleod added he had seen the crocodile in the area before: "My boat is 20 foot long and he was well up on the 20 foot mark,' he said.

According to Perth Now, Mr Macleod said: "When I came round through Red Bluff opposite Governor Island I saw a flash in the scrub. I went across and Ryan came out looking a bit distraught.

"He came down the beach, he had no hat on and no shirt on.

"He was relieved and shocked, and thankful someone had come along because he was running out of options pretty quickly.

"He is a very, very lucky man."

He is currently recovering at a mission on the mainland.
