A 27-year-old walker has died after falling down a cliff at Southerndown beach in South Wales with his friend.

The man was walking with a female friend, 25, who miraculously survived the fall and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where she is stable.

According to the BBC, emergency services were called to the scene on Saturday afternoon following reports of the pair's fall.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman told WalesOnline: "We had a call from the ambulance at 16.09 to two people having fallen off the cliffs near Southerndown.

"One male was declared deceased at the scene and the female is currently in hospital in a stable condition. It's not being treated as suspicious and it appears to be a tragic accident at this stage."

The Daily Mail reports that the man was not named and his next of kin have been informed.
