Rare sighting of 13ft shark leaping from sea in Wales

A 13ft thresher shark has been photographed leaping out of the water off the Welsh coast in what has been described as a very rare sighting.

The Sea Trust managed to capture the moment during a survey in the Bristol Channel on Monday, reports the BBC.

The "very large" shark was spotted with a large pod of common dolphins.

Photographer Richard Crossen snapped the picture while he was out with marine biologist Cliff Benson.

Mr Benson told the Daily Mail: "This was an extremely rare sighting.

"Unlike dolphins, which breathe air, sharks rarely come to the surface of the water.

"If you offered to pay someone £1,000 to get a photograph like this, they would not be able to."

The Sea Trust says that sightings of thresher sharks in UK waters are rare, with just six spotted in 2013 and two in 2011.
