Audi R8 driver arrested after horror smash
Paramedics and police officers rushed to the accident where they attended to a 50-year-old woman who was travelling in the Fiesta but she went into cardiac arrest and was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the Audi R8 initially fled the scene but a man later handed himself into police. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service told the Birmingham Mail: "Crews arrived to find two cars that had been in a significant collision.
"The passenger of one car, a woman, was in cardiac arrest and was being given CPR by police officers at the scene.
"Crews and the doctor took over resuscitation attempts and continued advanced life support on the woman.
"Sadly, despite efforts nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead on scene a short time later."
Ambulance crews also revealed that the driver of the Ford Fiesta sustained serious chest injuries. She was administered pain relief at the scene while the fire services worked to extract her from the wreckage.
"The woman was immobilised before being taken on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the regional major trauma centre for further emergency treatment," added the West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson.
Police are currently calling for witnesses who were at the junction of Shaftmoor Lane and Reddings Lane in Hall Green shortly after 11.30pm on Tuesday night.
