A British boy drowned on Sunday when he fell into a swimming pool in the village of Cartama near Malaga in Spain.

According to Neja Today, the five-year-old died at a private house on the Camino de Las Criaderas after paramedics were unable to revive him.

The Daily Mail reports that the boy was on a family holiday and was staying at his grandparents' house in the village.

A Guardia Civil spokesman said: "The autopsy is yet to take place but we're treating it as a tragic accident."

The child is believed to be the younger of two children and had flown to Spain on Saturday with his parents to visit his expat grandparents.

Just an hour later, a 50-year-old drowned in the sea near Torrox, east of Malaga, and in the evening, two Romanian women were pulled out of the water in Castellon in Northern Spain, The Olive Press reports.
